d'autres choses

καλημέρα :)

That means hello in Greek. But technically it means good day. I only know this because I'm learning Greek now, and I think I'm moderately cool because now I know a whole new alphabet and I can write secret messages to other people who know Greek.

And if you've never read one of my blogs before, in which I would constantly refer to things that I love/hate/am obsessed with/wish I liked/sort of like/pretend to like/wish I didn't hate/wish I didn't like, then here is a pretty much comprehensive list of those very things.

1.  One of my favorite things to do ever is write, as in physically write. And I need to have paper to bear down on so that when I write it makes an embossed-like impression on the page. And it can't be just any pen. It needs to be this specific pen, the Pilot G2 0.5mm black pen. It needs to be black, it needs to be 0.5mm thickness. I once bought a 24-pack of these prized pens at Staples and it cost $17.99 which is a hefty price for pens. I think I'm going to ask for some for Christmas, I kid you not.
I love every aspect of writing. I like holding the pen. I like forming the letters. I like feeling the impression of the letters on the page. I like how the ink runs fervently through the vial and how the newly written ink glistens in the light. Call me insane, but I would totally sign up to be a professional handwriter. I just love it. You can pay me to take notes for you in class. Or not. I'll do it for free.

2.  I'm not a math person. I can't do it. I wish I had some sort of mathematical aptitude but I don't. I don't think in a mathematical way. When I get a problem I just don't know what to do with it, so I'll try multiple convoluted techniques that are just not even real, or I'll mix up formulas and even if I know how to do something, I still won't understand the relevance of it. Me and math are just stuck on the struggle bus.

3.  One of my favorite things to collect are malachite rocks. If you don't know what a malachite is, here's a handy picture reference. If I ever find a rock store, you know because there are at least 3 on every street, I have to pick up a few malachites. I just like to hold them in my hands and marvel at their beauty.

4.  I absolutely positively love Frank Sinatra more than life. He is by far my favorite person. His music transports me back to a cultural time I am nostalgic for. When I listen to it I just feel the most beautiful, romantic emotions about life. It's wonderful. If you're a novice Sinatra listener, the Sinatra Reprise: The Very Good Years album is a fantastic one to listen to. I dance to it with my cat. If I had to choose favorite songs, which is almost impossible, I would definitely go with Nancy, Young At Heart, In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning, Love And Marriage, Fly Me To The Moon, It Was A Very Good Year, You Make Me Feel So Young, It Happened In Monterrey, oh I could go on. But I love these ones in particular. I also really, really love Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Tony Bennett, and anyone who is on the 40s on 4 channel of Sirius XM radio. Yes, I listen to that for real and my parents think it is too old for them

5.  Yes, I also listen to music other people my age listen to.

6. I have an uncannily good memory for little details about things. I'm not trying to say that I am awesome/supernatural/fantastically cool for these abilities, I just seem to soak up little details about everyone and everything. Sometimes people think it's weird when they say "Did I already tell you the story about when I did blank with so-and-so?" and I say "Yeah, the other day when we were walking back from lunch and then we sat on the curb over there and I was wearing that dress." I don't think these things are unnatural, I just think sometimes I pay attention to things most people overlook. I tend to remember names, dates, historical details, random and useless facts (such as: it takes 30% longer to read all capital letters than all lowercase letters; or: I still remember the process involved in gel electrophoresis even though I've done it once and probably won't use it again), acronyms (especially things involving biology), and I can recite certain things verbatim. I also have a photographic memory, so sometimes when I explain things on this blog I'll use a ton of details and imagery because I remember things exactly as they were. When I took anatomy in high school, I would sometimes not remember the concept but I would remember what page number it was on in the textbook and I would write the line number the word was on. Those things were correct, but I couldn't remember the important parts. Rather a useless talent in cases like that.

7.  I take a ton of pictures. I have a Canon T3 Rebel series model and I love it so much. One of my favorite things to do is wander around and take pictures by myself. I like to dissect and parse nature, cities, buildings, etc. with my camera. And I just bought a new lens :) The ideal job would be as a National Geographic photographer. I mean, seeing all the corners of the earth and getting to document them on camera and get paid for it? Um yes.

8.  I love to paint with watercolors and I love sculpture. I especially love making abstracted and nonrepresentational plaster forms. I could do that for days, everyday.

9.  I have highly terrible eyesight. It's truly a predicament. It's so bad I have 3 pairs of glasses. One of those three are my prescription sunglasses which are so fantastic because people don't know they're prescription so I don't have to wear a pair of glasses and a pair of sunglasses over them. I can just throw them on, look decent, and see. But when I go into stores and don't feel like taking them off, people probably think I'm blind or antisocial or rude and pretentious. Why not get contacts, you say? I'll let synthetic materials touch my eyeballs when I get a Ph.D in math. And we all know that's not happening.

10.  Like most girls, I really love shoes. And not just expensive girly shoes, I love all the shoes.   The reason I put that artsy, asymmetrical, sepia-tone picture of my boots up there is because those are my absolute favorite boots ever, I feel like I needed to pay homage to them. I never thought they would match anything but they go with dresses, pants, shorts, skirts, rompers, you name it. It was definitely in the top 5 best purchases list.
I'll splurge on boots, heels, espadrilles, wedges, sandals, flip flops, sneakers, other miscellaneous athletic shoes, shoes that are like gloves for your feet (I do have a pair of these and I love them. But people at the art museum literally pointed and laughed at them), flats, Sperrys, Oxfords (I currently have a searingly painful blister for wearing them around campus without socks), gladiator sandals, slippers, stilettos, rain boots, snow boots, hiking/outdoor shoes, and Toms. I even love Crocs, I have two pairs and I don't see why people hate them. I actually lied, I don't love all shoes, there is one exception: furry clogs. Or clogs in general. I'm sorry if I just insulted your shoe choice.

11.  I'm really afraid of heights. One time in Costa Rica I was climbing a mountain against my will and I freaked out and the Costa Rican men had to haul me up the mountain. But I would definitely go up in a hot air balloon.

12.  I'm really just a happy person, to the core. It's not often that I am depressed or very aggravated. I might say I am, but truly I'm just overexaggerating. I smile a lot and I'm rather exuberant and ebullient. Sometimes this is a problem because I can just be brimming over with excitement that it drains other people of their own energy. I have far too much energy for my own good. Better to be alive when you're on earth than to be vapid.

I also like romantic comedies, mostly because I hope someday my life will be like a romantic comedy. I love the beach more than life itself and I adore Michael Buble, Anderson Cooper, and anything vintage.

The end. For now.
