what's this?

Since you were probably wondering what this was, I thought I'd dedicate an entire page to explaining its significance.

It's just a scale for weighing fruits and vegetables as well as other miscellaneous produce. A rather mundane item.

I didn't have some sort of philosophical epiphany that drew me to this scale. I just thought it looked cool. And I thought that having them arranged in a grid would make an interesting design. Although it has absolutely no significance to my blog at all.

There are a few reasons I love this scale. First of all, it's striking. It has an old-town market feel to it, and it reminds me of an old Western town. Even though I've never been to an old Western town. It's funny how we can compare things to other things we've never even seen.

I also like the font of the brand name, Chatillon. This company still makes scales.

I've also been fond of clocks and items resembling clocks. And since this has a round face, some numbers arranged evenly around the edge, and a hand, it reminds me of a clock.

Finally, this scale was in a small, family-run produce market that was a refurbished old farmhouse-type of building in Milton, Georgia. It was one of my favorite places to go to, and this scale epitomizes the style of the market--old-fashioned, simple, yet interesting and unique.

So there you have it, the famous Chatillon scale.
